Introducing the Nico Skirt and Skort!

The original inspiration for this style came from watching my sister Nicole navigate endometriosis, and how difficult it can be to find clothing that feels good when her body fluctuates and when pain and discomfort are unpredictable. I wanted to create something that offered her comfort, flexibility, and gentleness.

The Nico Skirt features a waistband with elastic at the sides and double drawstrings that tie at the front, making it easy to adjust throughout the day (and add a playful touch!). The flat waistband at the front and the gently elasticized sides allow the body to grow with minimal pressure on the stomach and lower back, and ease in with drawstrings when needed.

The skirt has an easeful fit overall with a slight A-line shape and pin-tucked seams down the front and back.

The Nico Skirt is offered in sizes XS-6XL, and comes with a short and long length, along with the option of adding a shorts or skirt lining.

A straight stitch machine and serger are used to make this style, though an alternate seam finish can be easily adapted.

The recommended sewing level for this pattern is Intermediate.

After 2 years of sewing this style myself and seeing it worn and loved by so many customers, I’m so excited to be able to share the Nico Skirt as a sewing pattern! I hope you enjoy sewing it as much as I do!

The Nico Skirt comes in sizes XS-6XL (up to a 152cm (60") hip)

All models pictured have provided their measurements for your reference in the Fit and Fabric Library

The Nico Skirt works with a variety of light to mid-weight fabrics depending on your desired outcome. Some fabric types I recommend are: lightweight wool/ wool blend suiting, cotton, and linen.

This design also works great for a 2-tone skirt and/or contrasting drawstrings!

If you choose to line your skirt with the skirt or shorts lining option, you may also want a light fabric suitable for lining such as silk, cotton voile, or bemberg.

For the main fabric, the Short Nico Skirt requires 1.1m - 2.2m (depending on size and fabric width), and the Long Nico Skirt requires 1.6m - 2.9m (depending on size and fabric width)

  • 2.5cm (1") wide elastic for sides
  • Thread to match
    41cm wide X 16cm long fusible interfacing
  • Buttonhole Foot (or can create an alternate option)

The pattern includes printable files for both A4 and A0 printing along with details instructions.
